Carl Sagan – “A Glorious Dawn” ft Stephen Hawking (Cosmos Remixed). I have not been on this auto-tune thing, but this is catchy. Downloadable at the creator’s website. (via kottke)
Decatur, or, Round of Applause for Your Stepmother! — Sufjan Stevens
Sufjan Stevens is pretty hit or miss with me. This one is good though and seems appropriate for summer. I finally created a Pandora station that plays songs I like. (Seeded with Andrew Bird and Bon Iver added later. I’ve never claimed to be cool.)
Best song characteristics I’ve come across: a good dose of acoustic guitar pickin’, great lyrics (because it suggests the existence of a “bad lyrics” category), extensive vamping, a prominent mandolin part.
Edit: also, “a busy horn section”
The greatest thing ever: a Ukrainian band covering Hot & Cold by Katy Perry
“Imitosis” by Andrew Bird
I’m digging this song right now.
“Shankill Butchers” by The Decemberists. The band I most want to come to New Zealand. (via Cayce)
